I want to be super-unique in college. To do this I need a B: drive on my 1.4 T-Bird. Does anybody have or know where to get a 5.25" floppy drive?

Check out some local high schools...they sometimes have a comp recycleing deal with the gov. They might be willing to part with a few items......I got some stuff from mine...and I know they have a few of them lying around.

i got 10-15 here My dad used to work on comps and left all his shizit here when he moved out... theyre just collecting dust currently

Nah, my school replaced 90% of the comps a year ago, even then they didn't have any that weren't mac. My old old comp has one, but my dad still turns that on occasionally for some sadistic reason.

As always, eBay pulls through:

And as long as you're there, why not get a spankin' new owl pellet kit?

You want a 5 1/4 drive for your computer? 1.2 megabytes of storage? Good for text files but the 3.5 is easier to carry around, is more damage proof, has a greater capacity, and you can use it in all computers. Why would you want a 5 1/4 drive? I can think of better things to put into a 5 1/4 drive bay...zip drives, CD RWs, CD ROMS, DVDs, tape backups, removable HDs, fixed HDs, Infra red ports, USB ports....

hes just odd chako. actually he has stuff on 5.25s. dont know why he doesnt just copy it onto 3.5s, but thats swilo.

Oh I wasn't criticizing, just wondering.

Heh... I made my computer unique by replacing the green and orange LEDs on the front of the case with blue ones.

Chako, you can get away with such a great insult since it is your birthday. (:
I have tons of software on 5.25, and it's added insurance for protecting files, who would take a disc they can't copy?
And zip drives fit in 3.5 inch, and replacing the LEDs is too easy.

Zip drives can go easily into 5 1/4 drive bays with adapters and face plates. I know, I installed a few for some friends.
Previous postings not meant as an insult. Was just curious why anyone would want to install archaic peripheral that died years ago. I have 3 of those things collecting dust in my garage right now. All taken from various 386 and 486 systems cannibalized for various franken puters. Oh and everything I have said about those floppies still stands.

Stickers and spray paint = cool computer. Also check out www.thinkgeek.com's selection of case mods, if you want your computer to be REALLY different.

OK, listen. I already know PLENTY of external mods, even some you would never find on any webpages. My comp wants to be different INTERNALLY. I need a 5.25 floppy drive.

Sorry. Sheesh.

If you really want to be unique, put a 10" floppy drive on it. Even if you manage to find one of these dinasaurs, good luck mounting it and getting it to work.
