try turning your ps2 on its side. (vertically)
if its a pre version 5 ps2, you can up the voltage on the correct laser (cd laser or dvd laser) by simply rotating a screw. if it is after version 4 ps2, take it to a shop to get fixed, or utilize warranty.

before you do anything, you might wanna use a DVD cleaner disc first, just in case it's as simple as a dirty lens...
