things maybey possible to see now?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: TheeMon

a couple of things i like to see in forums, maybey if you can do these on this new layout and you like them you can put um on, if not np

1, when you hold your mouse over a topic you see the few few lines of that thread

2, when you go in a forum(ie General and Off Topic, Suggestions and Feedback) at the bottom(or top) it shows who is in the forum.... waitttttttt that used to be on here sorry

3, more kooler smilies?

4, prolly not a good idea on this forum but karma, people give positive or negitive karma... seen it on other forums and it looked neat

Already comes standard with the new forum software...

Also comes with the software, but I haven't enabled it yet because it may slow down loading the forums list... we'll see in the next few days...

Not a priority but it's in my list.

People giving positive karma in these forums? Hahaha ... not if the cynics here can help it I'm modifying the karma/reputation feature (which also comes standard with the software) so that members won't be able to give negative karma to prevent the almost guaranteed abuse it'll have ... so again, we'll see...

come to think of it, I guess it's enabled by default ... check the bottom of the topic list

Posted by: Ocean

i like the karma thing, especially as a potential way to rate the liklyhood that someone is giving compitent tech support.

Posted by: TheeMon

yeah sweet

Posted by: Gunslinger

Wow. A karma system....here.

I think I'd like to see that for a little while, just for shits and giggles.

It would be fun, for a few minutes.

I don't see it

edit: oops, topic list not thread

Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo

Uh-oh, a Karma system? <smiles sheepishly> Wait, isnt there a smiley for the sheepish smile?)

Posted by: Bobaroo

maybe?

Posted by: INeedHelp

i would like the ability to delete my own post

Posted by: uh...ok

Because people still make mistakes sometimes.

However, you can still edit out your post to have it be empty, and I'm sure a kind mod will notice it and delete it for you (or if you left a note).

The problem with deleting posts is that they might mess things up if you deleted the start of a thread that already has replies.

Posted by: Outlaw

Hmm... I thought my previous post sounded a bit too negative so I decided to edit it a bit. I noticed a delete button when I was editing, and I pressed it just for fun. Guess what happened?

Posted by: RAcastClarke

erm..reputation...?

Uh-oh..

<looks at Bun, and then at Bix>
ha..ha..

Imma go run away now!

Posted by: taco_fox

next we should have some stars under our titles indicating what level of Super Saiyan we are

Posted by: DiabloFather

the only bad thing is when u put ur mouse over a topic and after like 8 seconds it just dissappears...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

it's a browser setting, not a forum setting

Posted by: 9:35

This seems to be the current 'bug laggy about forum stuff' thread so...

the avatar section doesn't have an upload area. PLS FIX THIS RIGHT AWAY

Posted by: Canis Lupus

hmmm ... vB3 has a new permission system, didn't notice that ... anyway, IT SHOULD BE FIXED NOW, KTHXPLZ

Posted by: TheeMon

kk another thing the threads take up too much space, i want " Thread / Thread Starter Last Post Replies Views " these more appropreatly spaced, i dunno if thats a personal setting or not but my thread area takes up like 3/4 the area...

if you didnt understand that would a SS help?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Do you mean the forumdisplay page? I believe there is more room in it now, and looks better on lower resolutions because it isn't so squished up due to too many columns...

Is this what you mean?

left = old
right = new

Posted by: TheeMon

yeah

Posted by: Outlaw

I can see invisible people. They have an asterisk by their name.

http://www.makaveli.nl/images/invisible.gif

Posted by: Canis Lupus

yeah, staffers and mods have that capability right now ... may need to change that soon

Posted by: redwench

you gonna keep the mark forum thread bit ? ive missed it since you removed it last year.

the what? do you mean the "mark forum read" feature? in the forum index, there's a link to it at the bottom, and on each forum category, you can choose it in the Forum Tools menu...

Kinda wierd, I noticed that all of the topics on those were started by either ian silverbolt or total recall, were we a little uh.... smaller back in 02?

Posted by: armystud0911

Do'h! Why can't I quote hyperlinks anymore?

Notice that it was in the News Archives - only members of the OTS Staff could start topics in the news forums

If you meant the two "images", those were attachments ... even before you couldn't quote attachments...

Posted by: redwench

i mean the individual forums. i know you can do it now, but are you keeping it in?

Posted by: TheeMon

also laggy why is your name up on the top of the forums, where the old names that were in the forum used to be, thats stupid imo to have your name there...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Uhm, you mean the announcements? Maybe because I posted the announcement, that's why my name appears below it? Or is that not what you meant?

If not, you better make sense fast, because I don't see why my name being under the announcement that "I" posted is considered "stupid" to you...

Posted by: TheeMon

make sence fast?

ohhh i see now... i thought it was seprate from the anouncement, sorry my bad... it makes sence now

Posted by: Canis Lupus

there, I made it clearer ... I hope it's "less stupid" now

Unless there is a reason not to, I probably will

Impossible. It would take Canis 5 episodes per member, therefore ruining all aspects of his life as the time it would take would consume his life.

Posted by: Outlaw

Just a few more things:

You can't see if there are any new posts in the Polls & Surveys forum, the lock symbol doesn't light up.

When you try to send an email through the link in someone's profile, it either doesn't work on yourself or it doesn't work at all (Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails).

And you're probably still working on it, but half the links at the left and at the top don't work.

damn, the night shift always catches me with my pants down -_-

Posted by: redwench

pics!

Posted by: Outlaw

Can you make the gray space at the sides disappear? I thought it looked better when everything was stretched all the way to the sides.

Posted by: uh...ok

Unread thread color within a forum is blue now for some reason - why is that? Is that just default and hasn't been changed back to what it used to be (green)?

Currently it's a little inconsistent with the Unread Forum color - which is green... so I'm always confused when I go into a forum that's "greened", see no green, and then proceeding to think that all the posts are read.

Just a small one, since this is the bug-Laggy-thread.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Can I get a little more substantial suggestions other than cosmetics, especially since I am not done with the layout(s) yet

Posted by: uh...ok

Oh, sorry.

Since it was a recent change, I was just wondering what was going on. My bad.

Can some body explains what karma have to do here in the forums? thanks

Posted by: Canis Lupus

they just like to call it karma ... it's really a reputation system, where members can give you reputation points and it adds up (or subtracts from it, if members give negative reputation points)... so essentially, people who have a lot of reputation points have "good karma" for having a favorable impression on members who gave the points, and "bad karma" for having low (or negative) reputation points, meaning he is not well liked in the forums.

Good in theory, but easily abusable by those unscrupulous enough to do it. It often becomes a popularity contest rather than an accurate gauge of how useful or well liked a particular member is...

Posted by: taco_fox

could you make it so the news forums get the blue icon when there's new posts instead of a lock?

Posted by: TheeMon

you could always "elect" karma mods for a time(and only they can give karma) ya know?

just a thought, dont really do it though mang

Posted by: Chaotic

I've never seen "karma" work on any board the way it's intended to. Plus, it just seems really..High Schoolesque.

You end up with these retarded clique wars with groups of people rating down people's entire post history when they say something they don't like. We could really do without that, especially considering current trends..

Posted by: taco_fox

whoa.. the Classic skin is very green. Nice job on the old style

OOH, I got one for ya laggy!!

Stupid one though, probably obvious.

I know that the 'comments' are now changed to 'user notes' for some reason, but how do I make one for my buds?? All I see when checking out the profile is "view". I can't "view" nothing..I want to "add"..

How?? Am I missing the obvious here? That happens a lot.

I guess it was hiding from ya ... made it bigger now so you won't miss it

Posted by: RAcastClarke

Ooh! Thanks!

Does this mean you'll post one for me now??

I getting comments...that's why I was so happy with vb2...I had like..6...

It's a shame they were deleted.

I want to know what all da peeps think of me. It doesn't eve n have to be a comment.

You could type "This dude is a ****head and I hope he eats **** and dies horribly".

The fact that you took the time to type that means a lot to me.

Posted by: taco_fox

yet another request: could you make separate buttons for Quote and Quick Quote?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

hmmm, quote and quick-quote? care to make a screenshot of what you mean, as I am not aware of a quick-quote feature here....

Posted by: taco_fox

Maybe it's just Firefox for some reason, but when I hit quote sometimes the page just jumps down to the quick reply box. From there you can click the "Quote message in reply" box to have the post quoted. But the Quote button keeps changing from Quote to Quick Quote on me for some reason. I thought you were messing with it

Posted by: tovarich

I'm a member of a seniors forum and there you can subscribe to different mailgroups :for example; hardware, software, travel, photography etc... Now when you post a question and people reply you get a notification on your E mail address. You also get all the post on your own e mail. Now that last feature is sometimes too much of a good thing. Just an idea for the Wolfman. Paul

You can set that as a preference in your user options.

is this seniors forum explained somewhere?

I believe he means he is a member of another website with forums for seniors.

OpenTechSupport doesn't have a "seniors" forum of any kind.

Posted by: TheeMon

nope, it should have a kids forum though

Posted by: Zakir

That makes a lot more sense!
