Castlevania and Contra problem

I bought Konami Collector Series: Castlevania and Contra the other day. I installed it on my computer with no trouble, as I meet and exceed all the requirements for the game. (I use Windows XP, by the way.) However, every time I try to actually play the game, I get one of those error messages from WIndows: "CC.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and then it goes on to ask me to send an error report to Microsoft (this I did).
I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it with no different results. I have tried running it in various Windows modes to no avail. I optimized my hard drive and did everything I could to clear space, in case memory was the problem--nothing. I can't figure out why this won't work, and to top it off, I installed it on my mom's computer (which is inferior to mine, though not by much) and it worked! I don't know what the deal is. Any ideas? Please?
