u know when it says under ur name like cool member?

I think only the administrator can make groups and put people in it. It's probably not of any use for any of us, just a standard feature that's not being used.
Your user title (like Cool Member) changes when you reach a certain amount of posts, or at least it did before Laggy upgraded the forum software. It'll probably work again when he's done customizing everything.

Hah, if I was in a group, it'd be the 'off-topic' group. There would be about 4 or so members. We're the experts at taking anything off-topic, albeit not on purpose..

That's just his user title. You can change that by going to your UserCP and clicking on 'Edit profile' or 'edit options' or something like that..

I believe there was a certain amount of posts necessary to change that. Before the update you had to be a Junior member i think. Maybe not though.

There are no "joinable" groups enabled ... Groups in this forum mean

Users Awaiting Confirmation
Registered Users
Staff Members
Staff Writers
Moderators
Majority of people here belong to the "Registered Users" group, so I don't think you can really join any of the other groups without either (a) logging out or (b) applying to be OTS staff ... and the latter won't work until I specifically look for them 
Anyway, the feature came standard with the forum software, but it's unused So there...
fyi ... user status != user groups
