Witch is better? is one really better then the other in any way?

Im trying to decide witch to get... right now im leaning towords Xbox Live mainly for the fact im getting Halo 2 on it, but i also love to play mech assault. So if some people who have both Xbox Live and/or PS2 Online could share their experiences?? i need help choosing :P

Like always, it depends on the game(s) you want to play online, and which games you want more

I planned on getting Live a little before Halo 2.

In this month's EGM which I got two days ago it shows in the by the numbers section that by the end of the year the PS2 will have 100 online-enabled games while the Xbox will have 150. They also gave report cards from what they saw at the E3. For the PS2 one of the +'s was "Sony's promising to put more effort into its PS2 Online network, enhancing its features" but for one of the -'s it has "Online network still not as cohesive as Xbox Live". The first Xbox + was "The most robust online network-now with content from former fence-sitter Electronic Arts"

I planned on getting Xbox Live though because there are a ton of more games (like 5 to 1) that I can play online that I plan on getting. Xbox Live is also the best set up so far according to a lot of sites that have covered both since they started up. There are some games with exclusive deals with Sony for online features only on the PS2. Same with Xbox though. Best to check out what game you want for the next year.

What page is it on? i got the new EGM mag the other day as well

PS2 is soo much better. Since you don't have to pay for PS2 Online and you have to pay for Xbox live monthly

Posted by: Wacheif

lol , i dont mind pay monthly for stuff , right now im paying for Planet Side monthly and also have payed for FFXI so monthly fee isnt really in part of my decission :P

PS2 Online kinda sucks yo

But then again, it's free. XBox Live, however, is not. Which is why there is a quality difference, in my opinion, you're getting what you pay for.

Edit: With added careful consideration. PS2 Online is only free if you've already bought the upgrades for the PS2. Which in effect make it a goofy-as-shit-looking Xbox.

Shit. I just looked up some prices and getting the PS2 harddrive (comes with FFXI) and online adapter and all that shit it costs more than an Xbox does.

Hah.

Also, PS2 games are cheat prone, since sony doesn't have a centralized service, and does nothing to prevent cheating. MS's servers are centralized and have user IDs, so they can ban cheaters. Also, XBOX live games can be patched to fix exploits.

So on a purely technical level, xbox live is superior.

Well me personally i like PS2 Because you donot have to pay for all you have to have is an internet connection but like said before XBOX Live is much better Graphic wise.
But to be Honest i don't really care i use both of them

I own both, Halo 2 is better than socom 2 and socom 1 is on the level of halo 2 , I just get xbox live free because I buy games for it that come with 2 months free, so that works for me! And ps2 doesn't have the friends thing whis is a bummer, and you can't have parties with all your friends

xbox is the best, the god of consoles

Posted by: Gam3r101

I got both and its goin good for me lol... * Xbox live is good for halo2*And *PS2 is good for Socom2*
Depends if u like first person/relistic stuff umm u get the point..They Both Have There Ups And Downs

if socom is out of the mix, xbox live rules.
only if you have to have socom get ps2 for online. its the only strong point. because it has all the "live features"

All costs aside, I found that PS2 online was a difficult service to use, at least in the UK, due to cheating, overcrowding and consequently dropped connections. I found the best times to play were in the middle of the night or early morning, while America was still sleeping.

Xbox Live is currently home to, in my opinion, the best football (ProEvo 4), 2D fighter (Street Fighter Anniversary), Driving (PGR 2 and OutRun2), and console FPS (Halo 2) games available right now. PGR2 was and still is exemplary in the Live options department, allowing you to filter through a load of search criteria and ultimately find the exact type of race you want to have. I have yet to see any other console game with such well developed online options.

The Live technology is, for the most part, quite stable, but let's face it, being an ISP is what Microsoft have been doing for years already. The Live service should be good, we expected it to be. £40 a year is a reasonable enough fee, enough to keep the servers maintained and still keep as many whining and screeching children off of the service as possible (although, after playing Halo 2 extensively, I find that perhaps £40 a year isn't quite enough to deter Bungie's primarily pre-pubescent "community" from deafening you and making your overall matchmaking experience rather annoying, although occasionally comical if you have had enough to drink). The buddy list thing is another huge advantage, because if you're not into the whining and screeching children you can always just play exclusively with your buds.

Some Xbox games, namely PGR2, SF Anniversary, and Halo 2, have taken advantage of Live updates and downloadable content. This is quality. For £3 we were able to download an entire city on PGR2, complete with a load of new tracks and cars as well. Bungie have released a number of patches for Halo 2 making gameplay a bit smoother although I have recently heard about glitches whereby players are able to walk through walls and other random nonsense including the resetting of everyone's Rumble Pit "skill" levels.

My hope is that Sega decide to sort out OutRun 2 because at the moment, only routes 1 and 16 will allow you to save your top score via Live. Even still, the game is exceptional, and being able to compete with the whole world is a dream come true for time triallers, especially those die-hard MarioKart SC fans out there

I've recieved 3 free games from Sony Online, plus 2 demos and a new version of the "Central Station" software. I feel that Sony has done a good enough job to keep me happy

Personnally I like Ps2 but ONLY for Socom2 but even that is getting bad now with the online problems the 2nd generation ps2 came out as well and I must say I am disappointed that they did not put in a harddrive (dumbassesa) so really socom2 is the only thing going for Sony PS2........I just hate XBOX live yeah I know if your a true gamer you dont mind paying the $$$$ to play online but really its TOO much....and once again microsoft is at it going around flashing its money by moving into the gaming console world buying this...buying out that....it sickens me as a gaming console fan to see a company move in like that...taking ideas and just improving upon them then sellling it off......it would be like me ripping off windows making it better then selling it...........

but this argument is pretty much endless everyone has their tastes.....for now its ps2 for me.....if sony dont pull theirs heads out of their butts soon...I may be buying an xbox soon

i find xbox live to be better than ps2 online for 6 reasons.

1. Alot more games for xbox live than for ps2 online.
2. Every game (just about) that has online multiplayer supports the headset.(only a few ps2 online games that use a headset.)
3. You have the same gamertag for every online game instead of having a different username and password for each ps2 online game.
4. more games that have extras for download(ps2 hdd is used by very few games)
5. Halo 2 scores!
6. Main reason why xbox live is better than ps2 online is because of the excellent connection and very little to no lag since only high speed connections are required and there are really no hacks on xbox live.

The only downside to the xbox live is the fee. ($5 a month or $50 annually(by getting a pre-paid card))

Posted by: gaz

You can get pre-paid cards for Xbox live? Screw it, Xbox live is better.

And the slim-line PS2 has no HDD because thats the only way they could have made it slim-line. The PS3 comes out in 2006, so I highly doubt the HDD will be an addition anyone will care for in the UK, concidering it's not even out yet. Also, developers aren't too likely to pick up on it from now on anyway, reducing the point in having one even less.

Then again, I don't even believe consoles should have a HDD to begin with. It defies the pick-up and play ethos of a console system, but then again so does the idea of patching, one taken up by both PS2 and Xbox developers.

Xbox live is clearly better though, but I'm fine with my PC gaming at the moment.

Dude shut up xbox live costs 50 bucks a year not monthly so shut up you dont even know what you are talking about. Oh your to poor to afford that because you play with your crappy dial up on ps2 online. screw you . Xbox live is so much better my friend has ps2 online and it sucks. I have xbox live. My gamer tag is MyNameIsStealth
