VPN questions.

I've got a VPN set up to connect to my work network, and I want to figure out if it's possible to make it so that internet access remains through my local connection, rather than going through my work VPN as it does now. Though I can potentially see that that might be impossible, it would be nice if I could specify a few IPs that would be accessed through the VPN, so that the rest remain through my own network connection.
