RE: The Spyware Thing....

Can't resist the temptation to post on this subject. I have been working technical support for quite sometime now, more specifically computer/network support. One of the common problems I see when assisting people, is slow connection speed or the computer locks up while trying to access an online resource. I have found, and it is my personal opinion, that there are a number of programs out there that can cause these symptoms. This is due to the insane amount of bandwidth these programs use and ports these programs open and allow communication thru.

Mostly these programs are packaged with a form of advertising program or spy ware, and even ones that use system resource to move or process data. I have also found on troubled PC's that removal of such programs result in dramatic performance increase and system stability. The most common offenders are Most file sharing utilities such as Bear Share or the like, Comet Cursors, WeatherBug, and about 12 other no name applications that run in the computers background all the time including when you shut them down.

But I wouldn't know anything about that sort of thing, as I too am a bumbling idiot, and didn't read the FAQ that said "THIS IS NOT ADWARE OR SPYWARE".

And another thing, if person makes a program that may or may not be involved with the ad ware spy ware game. If you claim your product is not of that nature and it is utilize system resources it shouldn't need and tying up valuable bandwidth that again it doesn't need, and is something that a PC tech when working on a computer would remove as it LOOK LIKE, ACTS LIKE, AND SMELLS LIKE, the above mentioned nasties. Most of us will go out on a limb and give you the benefit of the doubt that perhaps it isn't one, but it still remains that the program may need to be taken back to the workshop and have it's "bugs" (no pun intended) fixed. This is to say that your program may have serious security problems or otherwise, and fixing it may be beneficial to both you and your clients.

A wise man once said, "If the child smells the stew and say Pee-U, maybe one should remake the stew that it should not stink, for sometimes the child knows best"
