Disabled Messenger as a tweak...now it's gone??

I recently disabled Messenger in the services.msc (run, services.msc, OK) screen (to rid myself of some pop-ups and annoying messenger exploits). From what I understand, the program should still be there, but just not start up on re-boot. For some reason, it doesn't show in the list at all. Not that I'd ever want to re-use it, just trying to figure out why it's removed from the list.
One of the other purposes of this simple tweak was to decrease boot-time. If I were to disable/stop some other applications, I wouldn't want them to dissappear as well, in the event I needed them back.
Anyone know how to make messenger "reappear" on the list...even though I still want it disabled?

Hmmm .. I guess you mean Window Messenger and not MSN Messenger ..

I tried that, and it still does not show up in the "Services" menu. This is the entry that is just called "Messenger". I read that disabling this service would help eliminate certain pop-ups/exploits that are IP based, and it was also a system resource hog. I didn't think that disabling it would permanently remove it from the list. Just wondering how to get it back into the list, so I can toggle on and off if needed.

it_waaznt_me, I don't think you're getting the question. He is not talking about Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger, he's talking about the Messenger service, which has nothing to do with any IM program. And not only that, he's not trying to get rid of anything. He disabled it and it disappeared from the services list, and because of that he can't turn it back on if he ever wanted to (like he said in both his posts).

Hmmmm
Is that So ...? (Why I am behaving that dumb ? ) ... :hehe: ..
Ok
Start > Run > Services.msc (press enter) ..
Scroll down to Messenger Service and Enable it ..

lol
Anyway, grataballi, if you really want it back, maybe a repair install of XP would do the trick. That would also mean that you'd have to re-apply alot of windows updates and take the chance that other programs might stop functioning until you reinstall those too. I'd leave it like this since it doesn't really bother you.
