how do i customize the Sniper Rifle?

i'm making a map for some online play with some friends...i'm quite familiar with Unrealed 2.0.....but i never did any tricky customization of weapons.......all i want to do is change the image of what you see when you zoom in with the sniper rifle.......i've seen it done before, and already have a pic i would like to use......but i dont know how to put it to use....how would i use this image as the one you see when you zoom in?

I haven't worked with unrealed, so I can't specifically help you, but I have a healthy knowledge of this sort of thing so I may be able to blunder into some kind of soulution.
I'm going to assume that this is UT2004 you're talking about.
first of all, you should know that (so far as I understand, assuming there hasn't been any major changes to this aspect of the engine) that your customization will be limited in certain areas. I'd rather hear what your over-all idea is before I go on about that, though.
so far as I know, the zoomed-in scope is two (or more) images. the crosshair itself, the border/boundary (which might be a part of the crosshair) and the effect that is applied to give it that 'static' kind of look.
where these images might be, I couldn't tell you, but they should be viewable as textures in unrealed... I think.
I may be able to help you more if you tell me what exactly you have planned, and such.

i'm using unrealed 2.0...which is from unrela tournament goty.....thats pre 03 and 04 and unreal II, and unreal championship.....its kinda old

i've seen this image customized before online.....i think i gotta change some of the script to point to my new image in the sniper rifle....but i can't find what to change......i replaced the original image in my botpack, but unrealtournament freeked out when i tried to play the level, pluse to see changes online, the players would have to download a new botpack with my new image in it and that don't seem practicle......

yeah, the way unreal engine works is kind of flakey when it comes to personal customizations... it's one of the reasons why I've mainly played with the various quake engines.
I wish I could explain to you exactly how to do it, but I don't have enough experience with unreal.
planetunreal would probably have tutorials on this sort of thing, or you could find someone doing similar stuff and mail them... it's the kind of thing you'll probably have to do some digging on.
You've got the right idea, from what I can see, just have to find out exactly what needs to be done, and where.
I would certainly reccomend attempting to complete the project, if for nothing else than the knowledge of how this particular deed is done, it may come in handy later, if you intend to do a lot more of this sort of thing.

yeah......i found out its definitally some scripting i dont have the time to learn right now....lol..too bad....i'll post around and ask for the required scripting.......thanks fer the input

There is a mod out there called Silent Assassins for Unreal Tournament. They have a custom sniper rifle picture.
I used to post there. They have a forum. If you want, there is a chance that the developers there will help you out if you want to learn how to change the scope picture. They did it somehow. Hopefully they can help you.
I like that picture by the way. It's pretty damn cool. Did you make that yourself, or is it something your found elsewhere?

thanks man.....i made it myself with some help from macromedia flash mx 2004....lol....just cuse it has that snap to tool........it does look pretty wicked dont it?.....lol

I think they're something like sa.beyondunreal or something. You can just do a google search for Silent Assassins. It'll be there.

you could download a sniper mod fromany good mod site and depending on how the have made the mod you could the alter the files your self.
a very easy game to do this in is command and conquer generals. most of the information is as a value.
so you download a sniper mod where the colour and range has been change and if it is as easy as generals that by changing a few values may get you what you want.
however this may even make the rifle blow up in your hands :P
know its not much but if you dont know how to program the moding is not easy.
if you do no how to program then its a whole new ball game.
firstly download a sniper mod or any small mod open it and see whats going on.
get a idea on what the moder has done. this will help when making your own
for example if you make a mod and it does not work it may be one line of univeral code that makes the mod interact with the game is missing and by looking at the other moders mod you probably will be able to fix your own.
works for me
though unless you have promision for the origanal moder do not change ther mod and host it again cause its not nice it like stealing a car and painting is another colour

I did something like that a few weeks ago. I looked at a modded gun, then took the original gun, and did the same basic thing, but with my own customizations.
it worked wonderfully, but the new image is a little discolored. i'm pretty sure its just from the formatt I originally save it as though.
