Bush wants ‘facts’
on Iran's actions
toward al-Qaida
He says it's unclear if
Tehran knew of 9-11 plot
Updated: 3:37 p.m. ET July 19, 2004

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Monday the United States is trying to determine whether Iran was involved in the Sept. 11 plot and accused Tehran of harboring al-Qaida leaders.

“We want to know all of the facts,” Bush said when asked about reports that at least eight of the 19 hijackers passed through Iran before attacking the United States.

Iran and al Qaida are an even less likely alliance than Iraq and al Qaida, and maybe even less likely than Iran and Iraq. I wonder if he's going to try to do it again.

yes.

I would.

Preemptive Strike, Part II
details at 10...

There goes more of the taxpayer's dollars to rebuild yet another country we break ... and of course, more dead american soldiers

I'm hoping more that it's just a part of election year can-rattling by the Bush administration rather than a serious move to extend this "war on terrorism" onto Iran...

I doubt it. On a side note, Laggy, does your avatar subtley change color from redish to light pinkish?

Posted by: redwench

well, it is a gif, so probably

Posted by: Bishop

looks to me as if the coloring of the border gives it a slight shifting effect as you scroll past it... I can't really notice any serious color changing, unless it's happening very gradually over an enourmous period of time.

Posted by: BooRadley

I opened it in image ready. It doesn't shift. It's just one frame with a clear background.

Now that shifts.

Anyway, back on topic

it goes to show you how much we care about this stuff when we'd rather debate the animated qualities of an avatar than chew soup over the plans of world dictators.

saudi arabia has closer ties i think. but if iran does have some legitimate ties to al qaeda, **** bush for ****ing up our credability with iraq.

Posted by: Bishop

fah. I have closer ties to terrorism than any of these countries. You don't see them invading my secret moon base.

Posted by: redwench

the last thing saudi arabia wants is al queda running around. fundamentalist moslems want to overthrow the saudis, so that would be rather shooting oneself in the foot. people really need to separate individuals nationalities from a government's position. aside from unstable countries like sudan, no government wants these groups running around anywhere near their territory. they simply cause too many problems eventually, usually when they decide the government has to go.

Posted by: Bishop

the US is going to learn that lesson very, very soon.

I believe the current family running Saudi Arabia is supported by the U.S. They are not well liked by the the rest of the Arabs in Saudi Arabia. Lots of tribal and family/clan in fighting. Should the current rulers fall, I doubt if any that replace them will be favorable to the US. The fact that terrorist attacks are occurring on Saudi soil (full of High Holy Sites) is not a good sign. I wonder sometimes how much power the clergy actually have if they can't keep the terrorists away from mosques and holy sites in their war against US oppression. Maybe fanaticism has replaced fundamentalism in the Arab world.

Posted by: Bishop

it's sure replaced it in the american world. it's just another word that starts with a p.

The statement tells American voters that Abu Hafs al-Masri supports the re-election campaign of President Bush: "We are very keen that Bush does not lose the upcoming elections."

The statement said Abu Hafs al-Masri needs what it called Bush's "idiocy and religious fanaticism" because they would "wake up" the Islamic world.

Sounds about right.
