OEM Processor?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am starting to research upgrades for my PC so I can play all the next gen games that will be coming out (hopefully) at the end of this year. I'm starting with my processor. I don't have tons of money to spend, but I don't want to go the celleron route, as I am looking into P 4's. I have seen alot of OEM P4's at a decent price. While I know that sometimes a product being OEM doesn't really matter, I was wondering for something as important as the processor, if is better to just suck it up and spend more money for the "real deal". Thanks

I've got an OEM Intel P4 2.8Ghz HT. The only diff is that it didn't come in a fancy box and it didn't come with a heatsink. This was all fine with me since I was buying a different heatsink anyway.

the physical chip is not different, of course. physically, the difference pretty much comes down to just the heat sink and fan in the retail box. there may be a difference in the warranty however. that you should check on.

Yeah, the only difference that you should be concerned about is it doesn't come with a heatsink/fan, so you'll have to buy your own. Of course, if you use a hsf other than the factory provided one, I think it voids your warrenty anyway.

However, as red said:

It's not like some things where it's actually made differently.
