Okay, I put a new harddrive in but now I need to install Win98 and when I booted from the start up floppy with CDROM support it told me I needed to partition the harddrive from the msdos prompt but I have no idea what to type.

What do I do?

Boot from your start up floppy, as before, then type FDISK at the A: prompt.

You need to choose the 'create a primary DOS partition' option. Follow the onscreen instructions, to make it the full size of the drive and make it active.

Once created, reboot using the startup floppy, then at the A: prompt, type FORMAT or FORMAT C:

Once formatted, reboot again, then insert the Windows CD and type setup at the A: prompt, to start installing Windows.

Hope this helps.

Doh! - change directories to that of your CD drive, from A: to say E:.
As the install disk creates a virtual installation disk as D:, your CD may be E:, F: or G: etc.
Type 'setup' from your CD DOS prompt!

Sorry, I don't have to do this very often these days!!!
