DVD compatibility

Hey. I have an HP/Compaq S6500NX that came stock with a HP DVD Writer 300c. It fails to read a handfull of the DVDs I rent from NetFliz. At first, I thought I was getting bad luck with the rentals, but several have failed even on the second shipment. The one's that have failed and I've reordered have had the same problem the second time, and that's been three of them, and I know they weren't the same disk.

So far, on two, with enough retries and leaving it sitting there seeking for long enough, it eventually gives me the content, but it takes a while, and I'm on my second copy of MIB I without being able to read it. It just keeps seeking endlessly and I eventually have to reboot to eject it.

Any idea what may be the problem? The driver is up-to-date according both Windows Update and Compaq's site, and the only advice I found on the driver manufacturers site was to unplug USB devices, which I've done.

The driver is AFS2K.SYS from Oak Technology, Inc., (now Zoran, Inc.), version 3.1.20.1064

I just found the firmware update dvd300c_EK24.exe and ran that, and it didn't fix the problem. Bummer.
