Mobo: AOpen "AK86-L" K8T800 AMD Socket 754 CPU - $90
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit - $175
RAM: Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - $170
Vid card: Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO, 128MB DDR, 256-bit - $200
Case: Thermaltake Silver XASER III LanFire "VM2420AU" + 420W PSU - $130
Mostly I'd like to know how good that motherboard is, and if I could get something better at a decent price. I might get the Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000SWA case instead, just because it looks cooler, though it dosen't have the fan speed controls.

You won't be able to take advantage of the dual channel capabilities of that ram because the socket 754 AMD doesn't support it. I'd reccomend the new socket 939 if you're going with AMD. I'd also reccomend a different mobo mfg like Asus or Abit.
Summary: If you stay with socket 754, get a different mobo. But I'd highly reccomend going with the socket 939 for dual channel reasons.

Ok...so what exactly does dual channel do, anyway? And how important is it?

Dual channel calls for 1/2 ram on each of your sticks, while single channel just uses up 1 stick than goes to the next. Dual-channel is extremely important on intel but its like a 5% increase on amd.
Socket 939 is far superior to socket 754 though.
As far as motherboards go i'd recommend MSI gigabyte or chaintech. Asus is very popular but their quality control went down.

MSI and Gigabyte do make very good boards. 5% increase is still worth it.
