Asus a7n8x-x
Soundblaster Live! Value
winME

Well, I put old SB in the pci slot, installed the software from the SB cd. rebooted.
In the Sounds and multimedia in control panel, in sound playback only device aviable was still my onboard sound device(nforce2).
Next thing I was Add new hardware. It shows 2 things, 'Creative MultiMedia Interface' and 'PCI multimedia Audio Device'
Select either of them, it says 'This device is already installed but has a problem, etc', click next, in the Device status it says The MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (Code 2). To fix this click Update Driver to update the device driver.'
It searches for drivers, comes up with latest driver already installed... reinstalling obviously doesnt help.

Tried getting the drivers from soundblaster website.

Tried disabling onboard audio controller in bios, now theres nothing aviable in prefered devices in audo options.

Basicly ran out of ideas.... the soundcard obviously works on my old computer.

remove both from the device manager and keep the onboard disabled in the bios. reboot and it should detect the sound card and install at least basic drivers for it.

although i am curious, the asus has a better onboard sound than that card. are you installing it for another purpose?

woot, it worked, ty.

well, many people having the problem with nForce2 onboard sound mobos, including me, and it seems unfixable. Basicly alot of stuttering, crackling and static like sounds go off randomly usually after half an hour of work.. I googled it for a while, no one has a solution other then install a soundcard.
