hello. after spending 3 hours with yahoo sbc dsl tech support they are telling me that my computer must have some spyware on it that stops it from working with their dsl modem. does this sound correct? i am on the same computer, same browser posting now through dialup. if there is a way to find this 'spyware' can someone help? it's not in program files and they also did some kind of regedit whip or some term like that...any ideas?

Just go download Spybot Search & Destroy, update it, and run it. It'll detect and get rid of most of the spyware and adware out there.

You should also run Ad-aware. It picks up crap that Spybot may miss.

ok, thanks. i will try that one. i have had spybot for awhile now and just tried BHOdemon2.0 ...a little more info, they think i have spyware because i cannot access any websites with the dsl even though they can ping the modem. i can access the info on the modem, but when i try to get to the registration site, it gives a page not found...so they think i MUST have some spyware, a firewall or a antivirus installed, of which i can find none. so will keep trying at the spyware, but think there must be something else going on???

You could also post your Hijack This! log file for a more detailed analysis.

if youve had spybot for a while, make sure you download the latest version. he stopped updating the old one a while back.

could it be possible that's something else? the tech people were not making sense for part of the call and i wonder if it's something simple like a firewall i have in place i don't know about? any ideas how i would check on that?

Thanks for your help!

the xp firewall youll have to check yourself. any other one should be in your task manager.

not sure how to check either..?

If your using ZoneAlarm, Norton, ect. firewalls, they will appear in icon tray. Rt. click on it. There should be an option to disable it.

As for the MS firewall, by default it is set to on.

Turn it off by going to...

Control Panel->Network Connections->Rt. click on the DSL connection->Properties->Advanced Tab->Deselect the Internet Connection Firewall->OK.

Thanks all for your help. Finally figured it out as I could not uninstall Kontiki. Even though I had it deslected in BHODemon, it still blocked my computer from working on dsl...went and phyisically removed some files, and bingo it worked. Thanks again...now let's see if i can get this wireless...I may be back Raul
