Xbox Problems (The disk you are using is dirty or damaged)

Hey, I didn't know exactly where to put this one because it's more to do with the console itself rather than the games. Anyway, when I play most of my Xbox games, they will freeze up and say the disk you're using is dirty or damaged. I know this isn't the case because it has happened on almost all of my games at one point or another, and a couple of them were brand new. I thought maybe the problem was that my Xbox is too dirty or maybe some parts are loose. I decided to ask here because I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and know how to fix it because I would rather not spend money to get it fixed. Please help soon.

It's possible that your Xbox is dirty. Go buy a can of compressed air and blow out the Xbox. If that doesn't help, go buy a DVD laser lense cleaner kit and use it. Some DVD laser lense cleaner kits specifically say they can be used in the Xbox. Stick around, maybe someone else will suggest a specific cleaner kit they used that worked well.

It could also be your DVD drive crapping out. If you have a Thompson, it might be nearing the end of its life. I had a Thompson and it was doing the same thing. I could barely play my games without constant stuttering and dirty disc errors.
Two things you could possibly do:
1. Call Xbox and see if they'll do it for free.
or
2. Replace your DVD drive. I bought a Samsung DVD drive off of Ebay, and since it was pre-modded it was practically plug and play.

I've had the problem intermittently for about 3 months now, All I've ever had to do was spray off the reader lens with compressed air, and spray of the motherboard. I sometimes get this problem when running games for long periods, which I know is caused by a heat issue, to solve this I just run my box with the top cover removed.. it runs fine now.
