I recently bought a new computer. with a 17` flat screen , CD, DVD, 1 GB memory, 74GB ram(or is it rom?) and the manufacturer was dell.
After about three months the computer wouldn't recognize the sound card. I dismissed this as I thought I could fix it later. Then it got very slow, then the start bar dissappered, then i couldn't open anything. Files, folders, anything. So I tried calling dell to cash in on their "award winning service". What a load of crap that was. they didn't answer. So then I went to circut city to but a digital camera, trying to push the computer troubles out of my mind. I went over to the Virus stuff and there was a guy there. I told him about the computer and he told me to either reinstall XP or go to the restore point. I configured the boot sequence to recognize the CD before the hard drive, and put the Dell issued XP CD in the drive. I tried to Reinstall XP but the process keeps freezing at Installing Drivers and 34 Minutes. (I'm currently typing from my other computer)
What I'm asking is, Can anyone tell me what I need to do?
P.S. Thank you to anyone who reads this and responds.

I think 74 Gb is your Hard Drive ..
Anyways ..
Scan your system with updated virus definitions:
Panda ActiveScan
Stinger
Symantec System Check

since you dont have the full version of xp, youre a bit limited in what you can do. the easiest thing to do is to pull the hard drive out and install it as a slave in another computer, and run various scans and repairs, then return it to its proper home and hope xp will reinstall.

Dell support on my powerEdge 400 CS has always been great with hardly any waiting. I wonder if they have more calls for desktop support? And it may depend on the time of day.
I even had a tech from Columbia. Great English, well versed and very responsive to my needs. I did get an Asian accented person once that I could hardly understand though.
Glad to hear your issue has been taken care of.
