Built a computer for my daughter, XP Pro, ASUS A7N8X Delux, AMD 2800 XP processor & 768Mb of PC3200. After loading all programs and checking it out myself it seemed to function great.
After using it a few times at her place it refused to boot up. Powering it up essentially leaves the screen black and the monitor lEd stays yellow. Replaced the original 300 watt P/S with a 530 watt unit because of the CDRW & Zip drive. P/S is not at fault. By finagling around some I finaly got an on screen message that said something to the effect that that system32\ntoskrnl.exe was either corrupted or missing. Is there a way to etxract this file and repair windows using the XP-CD. If the system will not boot from the cd, must I use another machine to extarct this file to a floppy and then try installing it from that.
Have already tried all the usual simple stuff so I'm open to suggestions.

run the xp cd, and reinstall all the system files. this wont completely install the system but should replace all the system files without touching the data you have on there. bif that doesnt work, then you'll need to completely reinstall the system which will require you to backup all your data first before doing so(youll lose all your data in the process.)
