Hello, I am running XP home on a fantastic new Dell PC, however since last week i have been having 'issues' with IE version 6.

I am unable to open any new links from websites.
No pop ups work at all.
I still get loads of spam pop ups and they work fine, but nothing that I actually want to pop up works.

I have restored all the IE settings to default, downloaded the latest patches from microsoft, even re-installed IE.
Nothing seems to work!

Can anyone help?????

Thanks
Flea

Well, let's start with the basics:

-) Does this happen on all websites, or just one? If it happens on only one, then try a different website...

-) If it's just the pop-ups that you're concerned with, make sure you have java enabled - most of the pop up windows are javascript.

-) Goto Tools->Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browsing , and about halfway down the list, look for the option "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts". If it's checked, that means that all links you open in a new window will open in the same one (ie, if you have 2 windows, and are looking at page 1, all links you open in a new window will open in window 2). Uncheck this and try it again.

-) Download a different browser. I prefer Mozilla Firefox, but if you're more of an IE fan, try Maxthon (MyIE2).

Cheers!

run several spyware detection programs on your machine.

My cousin PC once had a problem with spyware that would always redirect any attempt to access the net to a certain spyware search engine.

Thanks for the help!

It hasn't had an effect though.....
and it's starting to really get on my nerves!!

I'm going to try downloading another browser.

Thanks anyway!!!
