I have recently installed Norton Antivirus on my Windows XP machine. Now the Media Player won't work. Any ideas on things to try?
Thanks.

You will probably need to elaborate on what happens when you try to get Media Player to work...
And have you tried uninstalling NAV and running Media Player to see if it's NAV's fault in the first place?

The media player opens fine, but when I try to play a video file , I get "unknown error has occurred" message. I have not uninstalled Norton, but it must be the reason because wmp worked minutes before the installation and has not worked since.

Have you tried a different video file, or a different kind of file altogether?
It shouldn't be too much trouble to uninstall and reinstall NAV if WMP's not working bothers you that much. That said, though, it's still pretty unlikely that installing NAV will mess up WMP. Have you done anything else in between NAV's installation and using WMP?

I have had a similar experience with Norton Systemworks.
Ultimately it seemed that the Norton device driver and my Extigy driver were at war in my system, to the extent that I had to totally reinstall windows. Too much was corrupted.
I wonder what has happened to Norton in 2004?
