Windows Explorer Shuts Down

I can open windows XP explorer, but when I click to open anything like my c drive, I get a window saying windows has encountered a problem and must close down. I a repair with my xp disk, but still can't use the win explorer. Any ideas of what I should try?

Make sure you have the latest updates from Microsoft. Run Spybot Search and Destroy, or something similar. Make sure you have up-to date virus definitions, and run a scan.
