Bottled water

I guess if it's called mineral water then it is indeed filtered through rock and is bottled at the source. If however it's called spring water, it could well be filtered tap water. Either way, it's the most abundant resource on the planet, yet it's more expensive than gasoline.
$1.00 - $2.50 = 1 20 oz bottle of water
$1.50 - $1.80 = 1 GALLON of gasoline.
I bet the plastic bottle, cap, and label probably cost the bottling company more than the water itself. I never bought bottled water unless I was really thirsty, and couldn't find a drinking fountain, or was on the go. Now I need to buy water because I just moved back to college, and my city has horrible tap water that doesn't agree with me. I started buying gallons of generic "drinking water" at Wal-Mart for $0.58, and it tastes just like most bottled waters.

I drink their Clear American bottled water all the time. Only about four flavors are tolorable though..hehe Strawberry, Banana-Strawberry, Black Cherry, and Key Lime. They're pretty good though for calorie free flavored drinks. Definately a lot better than diet pop.

actually worldwide, fresh water is in short supply. you just happen to live in the great lakes region, where its plentiful and cheap.
spring water does actually have to come from a spring, at least in this country. but it can be filtered and treated.
"drinking water" can come from any source, including water treatment plants. as my tap water comes from a well with high sulfur content, i buy water for drinking and cooking.
distilled water runs me about from 1.50-2.50 (depending on brand and store) for 1.5 gallons. if you just need drinkable bottled water, head for the grocery or discount store and buy the store brand stuff. much cheaper than the silly brand name crap.
buy 1.5 gal for at home, and the smaller bottles for when youre out.

You can always get an office bottle drinking water dispenser with refrigeration. That is an effective way of getting nice cold water in areas where the drinking water isn't that good (hook up with a service if you want). I consider myself lucky, my local tap water is the best tasting water I have found (and I have tried water everywhere I go). It depends on location. This cities tap water comes from 2 different sources. I live in the west end where the water is far superior to the east end (west end gets underground well water supply filtered through the west end city waterworks plant, east end gets Lake St Mary's water through the east end filtration plant). One thing I cannot stand however is the plastic taste all bottled water seems to get.

Yeah, the water from my home town was the best. I lived off of hose water during the summers. But up in Buffalo, the water is nasty, like it's full of clay sediment. It literally tastes like dirt. I need a brita (or some other water filter pitcher)

actually water in chicagoland isn't very plentiful these days, we are draining lake michigan and not putting the water back....

Go take an hour long drive every time you need to piss.
If everybody in that area did this, it'd be overflowing in no time.

To some...that could be construed as a waste.
Take a gander at this interesting site.

I've been drinking Crystal Geyser since 6th Grade.
It costs about 10 bucks or so for a box of 30+ bottles from Costco.
After you drink bottled water for awhile, you begin to notice all the differences in taste. For example, Arrowhead isn't as "clear" as Crystal Geyser, it's a tad thicker. Dasani leaves me with a scratchy throat. Evian is just the nastiest bottled water out there. Water from fountains tastes metallic. Water from my fridge has a weird taste and smell to it (the filter is 1/2 year overdue). Safeway Select water is actually decent- better than most name brand water.
Crystal Geyser makes the best water. Period.

Fridge water tastes "weird" because it doesn't have a sealed lid on it, and it absorbs the aroma of all the other foods. Same thing happens to ice cubes. And I LOVE metallic water, fountains, hoses, tap. Except here in Buffalo those last two taste like dirt because there's clay in the resovoir.
I prefer stuff in my water that makes it taste metallic as opposed to "pure" bottled water when they actually ADD stuff to it...

i have well water. it would be fine except for the high sulfur content. so its only drinkable cold. if you add it to condensed soup, it tastes really foul.
metallic is fine. sulfur is not

Swilo I know what you mean about people adding stuff to the supposedly "pure" water bottles... That's why Evian is pure nasty, cause they put so much damn sodium in it.
My fridge water is especially stinky cause the filter's way overdue...
Crystal Geyser is still the best though. It's got nothing in it!

Aquafina. The big bottles with the wide mouth. Best bottled watter I'VE ever bought, aside from a $2.50-a-bottle kind I got in Long Beach, CA. I don't remember what it was called, but the bottle was square and had tropical flowers on it.

Perrier is simply delicious...and you get your salt intake for a month

Shal, my mom bought some of those a few weeks back, she down 4 in an hour...
uh...ok, the filter has nothing to do with it, it can't take out the organic molecules the food is giving off, only the non-organic impurities from the sink. And I assure you, that filter pitcher isn't air tight.

wha? I got water, you got water...hell, the lake has water. all seems fine. and what damn fine water it is.
dear god- I replied in a water thread- kill me now

Lake Michigan water is great. I'm with AK47; I don't see us draining the lake anytime soon...
The tap water I use now has lots of nitrates from agricultural run-off, and it's hard water. I heard it got so bad one summer that residents were told they shouldn't drink it.
I'll buy the 1 gallon jugs of drinking water for $0.58. Paying $1, $2, or even $3 for a small bottle of water seems foolish to me. At those prices, I can drink alcohol for less than water...

You mean there is a difference between alcohol and water?

This is the biggest con since eve ate the apple!
Has anyone here given a thought about buying thier own filter instead of flushing thier money down the corprate sewer
at wall street prices.ya know they have them at places like
hmmm lets see kmart, sears, target and all sorts of other stores
like those plus they're for sale even ta da on the web
next time you see a panhandler tell him gave at the supermarket
for all those needy board members at the bottled water company
Posted by: redwench
ummmm......ok. first you buy me the 10k filtration system to get the sulfur out of my water. then ill stop buying those 1.5 gallon jugs of store brand water.
Posted by: Shalome
Yeah, mage, a lot of us probably have considered (or already own) one of those filters. I myself have a Brita filter attached to the tap. But when I'm on the road or at work, I buy bottled water.
How the F did this thread get so long?

Nah it's still only a humble page...
Aquafina is ok. It also leaves me with a scratchy throat feeling though. When drunken cold, that is. (if "drunken" is the right word)...
Crystal Geyser is the best. Period.

Gerbils need water too.
And the water gerbils drink also come from a bottle. Those bottles are extra special since they have a metal tube at the end and the bottle is upside down.
