Trouble with IE6

I'm sorry if this issue has already been addressed, but I didn't see anything about it. For some reason I cannot fathom, my Internet Explorer 6 won't connect to the net or something like that. I use AOL, bet use IE as my browser, and it was working fine earlier, but isn't now. Every time I try to open a page, it says "This page cannot be displayed" and in the status bar thing it says "Downloading from site: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm" . I can't do any IE repair tool, because the IE6 came with Windows (I'm on XP Hom Edition), and I tried to download the IE6 SP1, but it wouldn't set up, keeps asking about Proxy Settings... I've been working at this for a few hours now and am considering hiring a computer hitman... Is there anyone that can help me? I'd appreciate it.

well, first go grab yourself another browser. aol makes me shudder just to think what youre going through. dont get an ie shell one though, get one with completely seperate code. once you have your second browser up and running fine, uninstall ie. download the ie setup files, and reboot. then install ie and patch.

Please post your HijackThis Logfile for better assesment of your problem.

Please forgive me for being dense, but I'm not quite certain what you mean by getting a new browser. Do you mean, instead of havign AOL, get like Earthlink or something? If this means buying or subscribing to something, I really don't have a say in it, because its my mom who makes those decisions... After I posted, I got a WinsockXPFixIt froma tech support person on AOL, and it worked right after I got it when I used it, but then I had to get off the net and turn the com, puter off, and next time I signed on, it stopped working (this is just in the Internet Explorer, I did have a AOL web browsing problem, but the FixIt solved that), and hasn't since...
I didn't see anything addressing any specifics on posting the HiJack this log, so here it is:
