The Army and Computers

MSNBC has an interesting story up on wearable computers in the army. Currently, these computers are only used for repairs, but the US Department of Defense has more planned for the future.

Over the next decade, soldiers will be able to fight in combat with satellite imagery of the battlefield, ballistic accuracy calculations and instant communications a click away on the computers embedded in their uniforms.

Soldiers will be able to use the scopes on their rifles as a screen for the computers to display information, and communicate with others on the battlefield via a headset. The suits will also be very mobile, and soldiers won't have to worry about harming the water-proof / shock resistant suits.

The Army isn't the only one interested in the new technology. Nasa is developing methods of putting the comptuters into space suits for Mars missions. Check it out here.
