Serial ATA

AnandTech has a little article up on the benefits of Serial ATA, the expected replacement for the current ATA standard. No more of those oversized IDE cables from the stone age! Here's a snip:

In addition, the Serial ATA specification is much more interoperable than the current ATA standard. Beyond the simple cable design and uniform connector location, because the specification is a point to point architecture, jumper settings to specify master/slave configurations or bus ID numbers are not necessary as they are in parallel ATA and SCSI environments. Drives may also be hot-swapped using serial ATA, which makes it much more appealing for critical systems.

I was thinking FireWire might be able to give SerialATA a run for it's money, but I really doubt it comparing the bandwidth capabilities of the two.
