Router Problem Driving Me CRAZY

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey Guys,
I'm really in need of some help here. I am pretty darn good with computers and I am a college kid, I always live off campus so I end up living in a different house every year and when I go home I always have highspeed internet. I have done plenty of networking and know a good amount about routers. My roomates and I just moved into a house recently and after activating high speed internet, I ran into a problem. My router (Linksys) just flat out did NOT work. At first i thought it was defective, so I went out and bought another brand router (NetGear). Same exact problem. Both routers are wireless and neither the wireless or hardwire worked. After messing around a little bit on the netgear router I Finally got the hardwire to work (with an option that allows it to automatically detect settings), but that still doesn't help me since I am trying to set up a wireless network. I have Comcast highspeed with a Motorola SB5100 modem. I've tried everything from using a static IP address, MAC address Cloning, Firmware upgrading, restoring factory defaults. You name it, I probably tried it. When i use no router at all and hook up directly to the modem, it works. I just can't understand. ANY FEEDBACK whatsoever would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you register your router through SAS? If not, call Comcast and get that done and you should be fine. If you registered in SAS, did you run the config disk on your router to set it up for DHCP? Also, go into your diagnostics of the router and find out what ip it's pulling, if any. Comcast will give you an ip you can get to SAS with, but if your router is pulling zero for an ip and your cable modem has block sync, there's only two possible reasons: bad modem or bad router. If your pc works directly connected to your modem, your router is either defective or not configured properly.

Your places walls are either really old and made of plaster(which blocks your signal) or you have my problem I had with my rp614 netgear wired router I held the reset button for 20 seconds while it was on then I held it for 10 seconds while it was off I turned it back on and it worked faster than before also if these forums don't have the answer check other forums thats what I did.
(p.s. took me 6 hours to fix mine)(also if you already know the answer post some sort of closing statement to this thread people don't wanna answer questions no one cares about cuz they no the answer already)

He's very experienced so he's probably tried using the adaptors right next to the router to single out the interference factor.

He's is even more likely to have checked this trivial thing too, but he asked for any feedback so I'll just spam here : could it be that your stuff have incompatible standards (those a b g, etc)?

I think it's worth checking your adaptors individually with another router and if possible your router with other adaptor too, to single out the problem, because we don't have much to look at here.
