how does one get into the safe mode in windows 98 SE in order to run avg free edition to kill trojan horse viruses. I have tried tapping F5 and F8 during boot time, doesn't work. Is there another way to get into safe mode? Please respond!

should be f8, although it might be different with your bios.

they wont remove in regular mode?

If you know the tojan visit www.f-secure.com and read about the virus worms and trojans.
www.symantec.com downloads virusremoval tools has guite few 'removal tools' if you know the bug.
Swat it (free) removes some trojans.
Curious why you need to boot in safe mode. Just to remind that in safe mode there is no CD Rom support.

need help in starting my win.pc in safe mode,.thanks,.mike

start smacking the f8 key just after the bios has loaded. before the OS has time to start loadin it self. You should then be given an option to start in safe mode.
