internet not working

Hey here's the deal: my step-sis recently started college and she took her computer from our house into her dorm room. her dorm room has a broadband connection via a plug in the wall. Well her roommate has a laptop computer, so they got a router so they could hook up both comps to the internet. Then they hook ed up a LinkSys hub which the comps hook into. After installing the drivers for the router on both comps, the laptop's internet works, but my step-sis's doesn't. I tried switching different cables and different ports on the hub and deleting the connection and reinstalling a new one. I am simply not a networking person so I was just wonderin if I could get any help out here.
Thanks

PS - the house internet connection was via wireless

Before you do anything else, you need to have your step-sister contact her network administrator and ask if it's necessary to use a router in order for both computers to connect to the Internet. Most college dorm rooms come with two ethernet jacks, and I bet most colleges (like mine) don't allow you to hook up a router because it isn't necessary and you may end up giving other people IP addresses (as opposed to the college's DHCP server).
BTW, why did they get a hub? They could have just plugged both computers into the router.

ugh... an error on my part in my first post, the thing i thought was a router is the cable modem, and the hub is hooked up to the modem because the modem only has one plug. And I'll have my step-sis contact her NA.
Thanks

also make sure that she plugs directly in, no router, to check that everything is working properly.

If they're using a cable modem to connect but the modem is connected to a hub instead of a router, the most likely reason that your step-sister's computer can't connect to the Internet is that she simply isn't getting an IP address. Unlike a router, a hub doesn't give out internal IP addresses, so both computers would need to get an IP from the ISP (in this case the college I'm assuming).
