T1 or T2 or T3?

Posted by: TwiztidJuggalo

T-3, much much faster than T-1, and I don't believe there is a T-2

There's no such thing as a T2.

thanks for that, now i know,i av 1mb

i have 3Mb and im loving it.

I wish i had a T3 connection it loads pages in a flash!

I had a T1 in my dorm and that thing would FLY! I would get uploads in the 5mbps range and downloads as fast 3megaBYTES per second (not the usual bits). One night I downloaded 3dmark03 (177mb) in just under 2 minutes. Now I am in a frat house and I pretty much get downloads around 150-350kilobytes per second. I'm not a big downloader anymore so either one is plenty fast for what I do.

Wow You Were Lucky But What Happen Why Did U Loose It?

Im on 6mb DSL. ADSL2+ is on its way though, and at my current distance from the CO, I would get about 24mb with that. Only thing I would need is a new modem. It uses the same wires as current DSL(which is why cable internet will be dead in less than 1 or 2 years, for DSL areas anyways).

For residential, Fiber is the fastest although its not really that widely available right now. I think it can go up to 50000/50000 or somewhere around that. A city about an hour from me is putting in fiber, 10000/10000 is $29.99 a month.

Dorm costs about $570 a month, frat house costs $280 a month, I am tempted to move back into the dorm when I can become an RA though.

theres many other connections faster than a T3...

Posted by: ianelarazure

T1 runs at 1.544Mbps up and down, and T3 runs at 44. something something Mbps up and down. The reason armystud0911 was getting higher speeds was probably because of a proxy or some sort of cache that was allowing a greater speed.

I am pretty sure T1 is the standard for small corporations and school districts, etc and T3 is for the larger corporations and larger WANs. (With the minor exception of a friend of mine who runs 3 BF1942 servers in 3 states with T3...*crazy*) But neither really are for residential/personal use, I would just go with local cable, or preferably DSL. I never thought I would see the day DSL was faster than T1...*sigh*

There's an OC-768, which is about 1000x faster than a T3. Here's a chart with some more stuff listed

Posted by: ianelarazure

*gasp* who uses those speeds?!

Posted by: taco_fox

Major backbones for ISPs and other major networks.

Posted by: Lancetb11

Well most def. T3 connection is the fatest, well there are faster ones thru Fiber & T4, but out of T1-T3, T3. Do you plan on using it?

Posted by: TwiztidJuggalo

lol wow, those speeds are INSANE, and they're just going to keep getting faster as technology grows

As for the fastest connection type, there are some even faster then the OC-768.

OC-3072--> 160 Gbps or 160000 Mbps

DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing)--> 10tbps

Cisco CRS-1--> 92 Tbps
