ECU is the part

can you tell me what it stands for? electrical control unit or engine control unit

Posted by: trekpsycho

electronic control unit

Posted by: INeedHelp

no i don't think that's it, the ecu controls the Controls turn signal, hazard flasher, heated rear window and wipers, but the one i'm looking for specifically controls the ignition

they said it's suppose to be a size of a cigrette box, it would be cool if you guys can show me a picture of what you guys are talking about, thanks very much

No it is called the electronics contol unit see here: http://autorepair.about.com/library...y/bldef-160.htm . I am not saying that you don't have one for the lights, abs system, trans, etc. ECU is a generic name for example: Engine ECU, transmission ECU, etc. here is a picture of one (scrool down to the 4th one from the bottom) for a Mercedes although I don't know if it is similar to what you have. Frankly, the best thing that you could do is buy a service manual on the car and that will give you the location of the engine ecu and tell you how to change it.

Something like this for the diagnostics?
Let me know if I can be of anymore help!

Posted by: INeedHelp

i know, i'm just saying, does utilize serial port? paralle port? usb port? ps/2 port? or what port. and i don't suppose you have the price do you?

OK, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page that I linked you too, you will see a link that says: CLICK HERE FOR PURCHASING INFORMATION. They have an email form and telephone numbers for you to contact them about their product. I really don't know what the price is or what kind of cables/connectors that would be used for this, but I am sure that they do.

I am not familiar with nor do I use their product. I found that site when I Googled to answer you question about a picture for the ECU: 1995 Mercedes ECU. If you do some more searching on Google, you may find other companies that sell the diagnostic software/equipment that you are looking for also.

Have a great day!
