Laptop Fan Does not keep running

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-GRX650 that the cooling fans have stopped running. I took it a part and discovered that when I first power it on they run for about 2-3 seconds then turn off. Any suggestions? Thanks

Beter Not Use It Untill It Works Again

lubrication needed (under the fan sticker), or you have have some sort of power saving/passive cooling combo turned on from the bios.

I haven't turned anything off and have not found how to change anything in the bios. When I get into the bios through start up it doesn't have any otions for fans, power etc.

I don't think it is a lubrication problem because there are 2 fans and both are doing this indentically. They both start for a few seconds when the PC is powered on then stop.

Hi

try setting the BIOS Defaults for the Laptop. It should help.

How do I set bios defaults?

Get into BIOS and to the right where we have the options to save and exit , you would have an option to set the defaults...

I reset bios to defaults saved, exit shutdown and powered on. Fans still only come on for a few seconds. Any other ideas. Really appreciate the help.

Take out the battery and the AC adapter and hold the power button down for 3 mins and release it , check if you see any hardware reset button at the underneath of the laptop try that and see if that helps.

Are the fans causing any performance issues?

If not, don't worry about it. Like Ocean said, could just be a feature enabled.

Unless it's causing the computer to act screwy, ignore it.

I've noticed that when I boot after hibernating my screen has a red hue for while starting but shifts to correct color in about 15-20 secs. I assume it is an overheating problem.

I took out the battery and disconnected AC and held power switch. Still only comes on for a few seconds at start up. Are there any diag programs I can purchase?
