Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here and I signed up exclusively for this problem.

You see....I received my brand new computer 2 days ago...I was loving it and it was working fine....until....yesterday when I just put in a cd to play some Far Cry it just wouldn't boot the cd.
The light stays on consistently and nothing happens. And when I double click the drive it just says: "Please insert cd into drive E:"
I tried all kinds of cd's, nothing worked.
I've tried removing it from my computer and then restarting it in hopes that it would work when reinstalled by windows. No such luck though...
It can't be a connector issue because the computer is recognizing the drive.

I'm thinking that it might be the laser that's gone bad...but....I really don't want that to be the case.....I would have to send the thing back and wait for another 10 days!
How could that be if I've only had the damn thing for 2 days!?

I'm at my wits end here...especially because the company i bought it from (Ibuypower.com) is closed on sunday and will be closed tomorrow because of labor day.

You people are my last hope!

check the cables to be sure all are properly inserted in the back of the drive. other than that, I dont know. Sorry!

put a bootable cd in the drive, like the retail xp cd, and reboot the computer. go into the bios first, and make sure the drive is boot enabled, and above the hard drive in the boot order. save and exit, and let it resume booting. if it boots from the cd, then you have a windows problem. if it doesnt, its hardware.

I wouldn't recommend opening your computer. If it's under warranty there's probably a sticker that breaks when you open it up, thus voiding the warranty.

Ok, well I put windows recovery cd in, and I don't know if I did it right, but I went in to BIOS, the cd was set to bootable and before the harddrive...then I went to flash bios...couldn't figure out how to get out of there so I pushed F10 for power off...then when I started it again it just sat there at the boot cd checker...and it didn't boot up the rest of windows until I took the cd out.
So does that mean that its a hardware issue? It's just amazing seeing as how the computer is 2 DAYS OLD!

I've had that problem too. I think that if you let it sit long enough it'll eventually get past that point. Otherwise I would guess it's a hardware issue. Your best bet it is to contact the manufacturers and see what they have to say. Maybe they can help you to fix it over the phone, rather than sending it in. It might be a common issue with their computers.

yup, if you let it sit a while, its now definitely a hardware problem. which could be as simple as a loose cable. if its warrantied, do as he suggested and call them.

Ok, so it's a hardware problem, that's what I guessed...well here's an update for ya....I tried putting in AVP2 and it works! But as soon as I tried any newer games it didnt....so maybe the spin ratio is screwed up? Could the computer have accidentally set it by itself?
And if its a loose cable than how come the computer actually recognizes the drive?

BTW...just want to make sure I didn't screw up anything in the flash bios...did I do the right thing by pushing F10 where it said Power off? there didn't seem to be an "Exit" other than that out of the flash bios?

(Im not that good with that stuff)

Keep the help coming my friends.

I think I'm going to open this pain in my ass up and check the cables

Even weirder though is how it worked perfectly for 2 days and now its just dead >_>

Posted by: redwench

well, you said it wouldnt boot from the recovery disks (are they bootable?). if its supposed to, you do need that fixed, regardless of what it does with anything else.

Posted by: Catmax

Ok here's an update.

I opened the computer up and double checked all the wires....there are no lose cables anywhere.
Then i tried putting a different cd in to see if it would boot it.
I put in my sounblaster audigy cd and the system booted up, what does that mean?

Where do we stand as of now anyways?
And how come AVP2 works fine but no cds with a higher spin ratio work? I'm just pissed off and confused at the same time.

And finally...yes I want to call them and do all that warranty crap, but I CANT until fricken tuesday thanks to labor day.
And the last thing I want to do is wait 10 days for them to send me a new one.
