Hi guys,
I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with Windows 2000. It freezes only while I am playing 3D games. Sometimes it takes hours to freeze and sometimes it freezes after 1-2 minutes. Sound continues to play at the background when it freezes, and CTRL+ALT+DEL wont work so i have to reboot. I have the latest Drivers installed and I remove the old ones before I install them.
There are no viruses or spywares
I have done some fan tests and memory tests, they work fine. I tried installing Windows XP that didnt help. I tried playing 3D games in small screen so that I could see the CPU temp when it freezes, it is usually at around 55 degrees.
A friend has the exact same laptop running on Windows XP but he doesnt exprience any problems while playing the same 3D games. This is what makes me think I have a hardware problem.
I will be glad if you can help me with this, thanks

1) Make sure that the all the laptops specs are matching the game.
2) You have the correct directX (9) installed and the game configuration recognizes it.
Windows is not for games, I had lots of problem getting H&D II working on it, so I use winXP for games. On my windows 2000 partition H&D II keeps freezing and causes problems with display driver (Ati 9600), but works very well on XP partition.
Well that just to tell that it might not be your display driver card or driver software, but something else that doesn't match with the rest.

did you have the same problem with the older drivers ???? if not just roll back to the older drivers and try that

Hasan,
I am having the same problem (Freezing, with sound looping) with my desktop PC. Its only the 3d games that crash like Call of duty, MOH, H&DII etc.
It never happened before, and my computer worked fine for a long time, untill one day it decides to start doing this.
Before you frantically start searching for a fix to this problem, it is nothing to do with video or sound cards, nothing to do with drivers, and nothing to do with heating or what version of windows it is running on, as myself and others that have this same problem have changed each with no effect.
Whilst i havent been much help, hopefully ive narrowed the cause down a bit.
If you do find out anything more about this problem, please let me know, and i shall do likewise, as it would have to be one of the most irritating things i have ever experienced, and i cant wait to get rid of it.
Good Luck.
