web hosting

I'm building a website for a friend of mine, and I was wondering if anybody could turn me onto some good companies for webhosting. It's a small simple site, so he doesn't need a lot of space. He would like his own domain name. He would like it to be relatively inexpensive also. I've never had to deal with web hosting companies before, so I have no idea what to look for in one. Any input would be appreciated!

Is there a special reason for the webhosting?
ISP allow normally 10 MB minimum of site with the contract.

If the website will be the same months then you need to upload it with FTP software and just let it stay there, but if the contents are to be changed often then you could do it or explane your friend how to use FTP software. There are few free and easy to use FTP programs available on the net.
Why pay a company to do it, it is not difficult.

I use WS FTP to upload, Dreamweaver and HotMetal to write.

Hope this helps.

his isp only allows 5 mb for the site. that and since he's going to be running a business he wants to have a specific domain name.

he builds guitars, and since most people buy guitars for their visual quality he has a lot of pictures that he wants to put up.

btw i use textpad to write. i hate progs that "help" you write html.

As in you run a hosting bussiness or you do it from your own personal computer?

I run PC repair and consultancy company. I use WS FTP program to upload webpages for my client.
And teach them how to update required data them self with free FTP programs. I let the client desing the web page first on a paper and then we work together (client and me) to write the actual page and when that is done then 'we' upload it together to the clients homepage location in his/her ISP. The hosting is just a money making business that is why I prefer that people do it them self.

I been dealing with PC since 1973.
