Empire Earth won't start

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This is really annoying because it's a virgin PC with only XP/SP1 installed! The error message (if it makes sense to anyone) is Error Signature - Appname: empire earth.exe Appver: 0.0.0.0 ModName: low-level engine.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00006f8e

TIA

Ian

Hi...

I found this post with google and I got the same error.

Did you find a solution for this problem or does anybody else have any idea?
I can't play Empire Earth on my computer while I could play it a few months ago.

I've tried the newest and my old video drivers but all with the same result.

Please help!

edit: Ill add some extra information

Im using a wXP computer with SP2 installed. AMD 3000+
I got a nvidia GeForce FX 5700.

Same hardware as I used to play on a few months ago

The error signature I get from wXP is this one:

AppName: empire earth.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: low-level engine.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00006f8e

There is a Sierra knowledge base article on the error here, although it doesn't seem to be very likely to help. Briefly, it says that you should set your hardware video acceleration to full, try the game, disable DirectDraw through Start > Run > dxdiag, try the game then re-enable DD, and lastly update your video card drivers, which you said you had tried.

Microsoft also has a knowledge base article here that also points to hardware video acceleration. Service Pack 2 has been known to break some applications, although Empire Earth is not listed there.

Those things I already tried...

Finally I started reformatting my system drive because I was getting more and more errors because of a somehow wrongly installed directX file. This gave me lots of errors on other games too...

Thanks for the help tho
