My roomate and I want to play an game over our network. How can I accomplish this?

I don't think Half Life requires the disk to be in your CDROM when you run it. So, a basic TCP/IP network via crossover cable/hub will suffice.
If you need to know how to set this up, just ask.

does anyone know how to configure a graphics card for half-life? I have a 32mb TNT2 and the game still doesn't look very good. I used the graphics setting "software" for the game bause I didn't know what to do under opengl and direct3d. I don't think Im getting the enhancements. Can anyone help me get the game looking pretty?

For half-life, and an NVidia card, you need to run the game in OpenGL. Check to make sure you have the latest drivers for the card at the website of whomever manufactured the card. I don't know if they licensed the TNT2 so just go to www.nvidia.com and look for the latest drivers. Of course, you may already have them.
And of course, I am rambling, since you really only asked what video mode to run in. For half-life, the answer is OpenGL. Ignore the other crap if you have to.
Update: Change it to OpenGL in the video mode section. When it gives you a warning about the video mode, just click "ok" and in the drop box that appears, make sure it is using the "default" driver. Don't use the Mini Driver. That is for 3dfx Banshee chipsets only.
