Extreme router trouble, help

So I bought the router 2 days ago and enabled my computer upstairs to hook up to the internet.
I specifically bought the Linksys "G" version of both the card and the router itself because that was the best in therms of stability and it had the longest range. And I was thinking: It better work to because those two things just cost me 180 bucks.
So anyway...I set it all up...everything works...I'm happy....but then even after the first couple of hours surfing "Connection lost" but then after 2 seconds it went back again.
I thought: Well ok, if it only happens once in a while it'll be ok.
But nope...it's been happening consistently now for 2 days....I can download smaller things like winamp and such because they don't take much time. But for 2 nights in a row I tried to download Full Spectrum Warrior demo only to wake up to the same damn message every morning "Internet explorer could not download the file because the connection to the server has been reset"
This is really pissing me off.
It's not supposed to happen, you see: The two computers are 45 feet apart!! And the range of the "G" router is supposed to be 450 feet!!!!
The upstairs computer is just above and to the left of the downstairs one...and my house doesn't contain any weird materials or radio waves that should interfere. What the hell is going on here? I'm not paying 180bucks for a connection that interrupts every 2 hours!
Please help.

1) You have red the user manual, checked the router and the computer configurations several time...
It is so common to be too eager to get these equipments running without really checking all the settings.
2) Connect only one computer to the router.
If it is not possible to get even one working then take the router back and ask replacement, it has happend to me wit Zoom's ADSL Router/Firewall/Gateway, the device was faulty in the end. One of my collegue used to work for one of these ADSL router... company and told me that lot of faulty devices do get through, because companies are only interested of money and worry about reputation later on, especially with the latest devices.

The very first thing i whould do is plug your computer into a land line (cat5 cable) and try downloading it again. This is to see if its your wireless router, or your internet connection.
My thinking is your getting some interferance from something ie an airplane, ham radio, garage door opener...etc etc
