strange sounds?

I do received once in a while two different sounds. One is broken glass and the other a electronic sliding down sound. It does not last long. I am thinking virus right now but my antivirus does not report it. I run AVG and Spybot. Anyone experience similar occurence?

if you are running icq, those are system alerts. you might get them from various IM programs, since the user can usually set the sound files.

Hi there,
I've had the exact same problem before and I'm having it again now with different sounds. The first time I had it it was definitely caused by a virus.
Yesterday my Norton Anti-virus program told me I had the W32.Pinfi virus and was unable to fix it.
Since then I've run several different anti-spyware programs and I used the House Call free online virus scan. They all came back showing no viruses, but that's the nature of some viruses and the W32.Pinfi one in particular; they tend to hide in memory and come out every now and then and wreak havoc on your system.
If I find a solution I'll post here to let you know.
