Can anyone help me i just got this new laptop and a wireless router to set up with my dsl provider and I've managed to set it up correctly but my wireless connection on my laptop is slow even though it says that it's going at 54Mbps. I've only been able to go to Google because it's a simple text page. I'm running a Linsys router and XP home on my laptop while my main computer is running ME. you see it gets even weirder because why is my desktop getting fast ethernet while connected to router with a cable and not my laptop. I've already paid a Geek Squad agent to set things up and not even he could set it up all the way. He told me to get verizon to check my telephone line to see if i was recieving a good line and I was. I called tech support 8 times between my isp (verizon dsl) and linksys and both told me to call each other or get the router replaced and when i did it still wouldn't work. I can't believe that i had it set up the first day and after all of this and $200 I've managed to end up back to square one. Please help me. I've give you any info if you need it.

So your connection seems slow even though it says you've got a fast connection?
Make sure your laptop is free of viruses, worms, spyware, and adware. These are the most common cause of problems like you're describing.
For a free online virus scan and removal: TrendMicro's Housecall
For spyware and adware removal: Spybot Search and Destroy
Let us know how it goes.

I don't have any viruses, worms or spyware or adware. I'm sure of it. But thanx anyway.

check your signal on the bottom right of your taskbar double click you should see like a pc with green "signal bars" i have a d link system 802.11b and a wireless usb adapter and it works perfect i get 4 of 5 signal bars and im running it across the street from my moms house. so anyways in other words make sure your router is updated with the newest firmware and also make sure it is forwarding all ports tcp, udp, try to ping your self also try to disable your firewall, post back with your specs on your wireless connection.
