Volume Problem

Hi all,
This may sound like a dumb question, sorry.
Anyways, I seem to be having a little problem with my volume control. It only started a couple days ago, and I can't remember anything I have done that could've caused it. When I raise or lower the volume from the menu, there is always an irritating little beep right after I release the slider. It only occurs with the Volume Slider, not the Wave, CD Audio etc. I can also use the volume control on the side of my computer (Compaq Presario 2100 btw), and it doesn't beep. So it's not a huge deal, but I usually adjust the volume using the menu, and it's just more annoying than anything.
Well I don't know how you guys could figure out the problem to this, but maybe someone has had the problem before that could help. Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

It's not a dumb question, but my computer does that all the time and always has. I always thought that it was to let you know how loud the volume was when you got through adjusting it. But you say it just started on yours. Did you install any software in the last few days?

The only thing that I've installed I think is McAfee 7.1.0
I don't know why that would cause a problem with the volume, but who knows.

I don't see how. I can't find anyway to turn that sound off on my comp. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
