Win2k network and removing a folder redirection policy

Hey y'all.

I've got a 80ish user network running on Win2k and for the past 2 years or so we've been using a folder redirection policy for a user's Desktop, Application Data, My Docs, and Start Menu folder. The original drive to do this was because our users were moving around the office quite a bit. Initially it saved a lot of headaches, but as of lately we've run into quite a few problems such as interference with Exchange accounts not to mention the space issue (We don't have a large server capacity, though thats really a minor issue).

About a week ago, I decided I was going to clean this mess up because the initial path for the redirects were sorted by department which sucks if you need to move anyone around when they switch departments and gain different access permissions. I changed all the redirects to be based by user rather than department.

As a visual ... originally the path was //server/share/profile root/department/%username%/desktop and it was being changed to //server/share/profile root/%username%/desktop.

So, as a test case I moved someone off the policy and it worked beautifully and really it was a hands off procedure. I tested this again on another user and again, no issues. At this point I'm thinking this is cool because its working, but it was late and I wasn't thinking clearly so I changed the policy in total.

Well, it didn't work as planned. Some of my user's profiles were still using the old network redirects even though I can verify the change. To make matters worse, no one was able to get into Exchange because it was prompting them for a network logon which evidently was different because no one could get through it.

So it was decided to do away with the redirects altogether and force everyone to use their local profiles. So we tested this out and it worked fine, but meant that we'd have to go back and reupload all the network info to the PC's locally. Its a time sink, but worth it in the end ... yeah right.

Today I came in and now all three cases are present with my users. Some are working off their local profiles without issue, some are working off the old network redirect path and some off the new redirect path. I'm thinking that at this rate, I won't have much hair left.

I can guarantee that there is no redirect policy ANYWHERE in the Active Directory tree. Anyone have any idea how to remove this policy for good?

I was having similar problems at one of the businesses I manage. I found a nifty little program called UPH Clean that helped me out.

Check it out and see if you can use it BlackOut.
