HI I'VE JUST INSTALL DIABLO 2 AND WHEN I TRY TO PATCH IT IT SAYS SOMETHING LIKE:"THE FILE DOESN'T MATCH THE CHECKSUM" IT TALKS ABOUT THE GAME.EXE.(but i haven't cracked it yet)
IT RECOMMENDED ME TO RE-INSTALL DIABLO BUT I'VE ALREADY DID IT SOMETHING LIKE 5 TIMES AND IT'S VERY ANNOYING.
WHAT's WRONG ?
HOW CAN I SOLVE THAT ?
IF NEEDED, MAY SOMEONE MAIL ME HIS GAME.EXE
Posted by: tuz
THANKS BUT I HAVE ALREADY DID IT
I HAVE ALSO CHECKED FOR VIRUSES AND NOTHING WRONG
AND I HAVE EVEN CLEAN MY REGISTRY

Here's a checklist of things to do:
1. Update your virus scanner. If it's not up to date, it may not be able to detect the CIH virus which is a common cause of this error.
2. Uninstall the game and delete the Diablo 2 folder manually. (Again). Be sure to copy the save folder and paste it elsewhere though if you have open characters.
3. Run a thurough scandisk to check for bad sectors on your hard drive. After doing that, defrag the hard drive.
4. Reinstall Diablo 2.
5. Install the patch from blizzards site and not from battle.net. Unfortunately they do not have the latest patch on their site yet. Try playing with version 1.0 though just to see if the error doesn't occur. If it occurs after patching, then the patch is at fault.
Keep us updated on how you're doing.

THANKS FOR THIS IDEA
I'VE ALREADY MADE SOME
I'VE MADE A SCAN OF MY WHOLE HARD DRIVE AND NOTHINGS WRONG
I'VE UNINSTALL DIABLO AND DELETE THE FOLDER AND CHECK FOR REGISTRY ENTRIES,THEN I'VE CLEAN MY REGISTRY AND MY HARD DRIVE WITH "system mechanic 3.6d" software.
I'VE MADE A DEFRAG AND THEN,TO BE SURE THERE IS NO TRACE, I' VE EXECUTED A REWRITING OF MY FREE SPACE WITH "norton wipe info"
I' VE REINSTALL DIABLO AND THEN TRY TO PATCH TO 1.01,1.03,1.08,1.09 AND IT DIDN'T WORK, STILL THE SAME MESSAGE FOR ALL
SOMEONE MAILED ME A GAME.EXE v1.04c FILE BUT DIDN'T WORK TO.
I AM RUNNING OUT OF SOLUTIONS
PS:ALL MY PATCH ARE DIRECTLY DOWNLOADED FROM THE BLIZZARD FTP SERVER

Post back your system specs including CD-ROM, motherboard, chipset, CPU, etc. There mat be a specific hardware issue that may be your problem. Like the SB Live and VIA 686B issue.
Also, are you running any extra programs when you're installling? Programs like virus scanners can interfere with a lot of installations. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and shut down all extra programs before installing. Only leave systray, explorer, and point32 if you have it running.
Keep with it, we'll go through every possibility.

Ok which CD drive have you installed from? I have the Asus A7V as well and the same plextor CD-RW drive and the game installs fine for me. Three things to try are:
1. Install from the CD-RW instead of the 50X. Or the other way around if you install with the Plextor.
2. Remove one of the CD Drives from the seondary chain so there is only one CD in the chain. (Secondary Master drive only)
3. Check for a firmware update for the Plextor drive. www.plextor.com and then try installing after the update.
If none of those solutions work, it may be a memory issue. If none of the above works, post back and i'll offer some other solutions. I think we can solve this one if we work on it long enough.

Now,every installation is made without program running in background
well, unfortunately,i tried to install it from my plextor and still the same problem.
I just checked ,i have the latest firmware.
i 've disconnected my asus and installed from my plextor then disconnected plextor and installed from asus. For the two solutions,it's still the same problem
damn, i'm going mad
ps:i'm also in relation with blizzard but, personnaly, i think that you are more efficient

are u installing from a retail copy of D2 or a burned copy?? burned CD of D2 dont work right on installation a lot of times
Posted by: tuz
that's my copy but i hope that it doesn't exclude the fact that i have the right to know what happen.
I hope that all my efforts and Ion Silverbolt's one weren't useless.
So, is there any solution ?

The reason why the game.exe file wouldn't match the checksum is something is either corrupting the data, or the Data on the CD is corrupted itself. (A bad CD maybe). Here's some more things I would try.
1. Try installing on another computer. Maybe a friends. If it doesn't work in your friends computer, I would say the CD is either bad or dirty. Cleaning it with some cleaner and a non-abrasive cloth may do the trick. If it does work, then there is some other hardware issue that is causing data corruption.
2. Memory problems can cause data corruption. I would run a memory diagnostic program to be sure. Goldmemory is an excellent program for this. You can locate it here.
3. Disable DMA for the CD-ROM you're installing from and see if that helps. Also, putting your hard drive into PIO mode may help as it cuts the memory factor out of the equation. It will be slow as hell, but the install may work.
I think a bad CD is the culprit. With the possibility of a memory issue as a close second possibility. Another remote possibility is EMF interference causing the data corruption. If you're using an ATA100 drive, the cable should be no longer than 18". Anything longer may cause data corruption. What was suggested in step 3 may help if EMF is the problem.
4. An issue I almost overlooked (Which I shouldn't have since I own the same motherboard) is the IDE controller you're using. If you're using your CD-ROM's on the Promise ATA-100 controller, try putting them on the VIA IDE controller. If this doesn't work, you might also try the hard drive as primary master on the VIA controller. The drive will default to ATA-66, but it might improve stability if EMF's or other type of Bus interference is causing the problem.
There are lots of possibilities here. The best place to start is to try the CD on a friends computer if possible. If it's a bad, CD, it would be a pain to go through all the above just to figure that out.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

i tryed to install and patch it on a friend's computer and i'm sorry to say that is a cd problem.I don't know what's wrong with this cd.
I feel very bad to know that i will probably not play at diablo 2.
I was very enthusiast at the idea to play this exciting game.
That's why i (we) spend a week to solve problem but without success.
It was supposed to be one of my favorite game as i played a little but i was discourage by the graphics.Later i found the 800*600 patch (unofficial) but it's quit difficult to play it with diablo v1.00.(?)
I'm talking like it's the end but i hope that there is still a solution.
If anyone has an idea and would like to give me some help, you're welcome.
Thank you ION SILVERBOLT and Janna to.
PS:i keep an eye on this post, don't hesitate to post reply or to send me mails if you have an idea
(I was thinking of taking the game.exe of the demo ???)

If you have a bad CD, can you exchange it from where you baught it? I believe Blizzard offers a special price on replacement CD's if you have to go that route.. E Mail them at Support@Blizzard.com about it.
