Need initial, quick guidance on FAT32 or NTSF.

If anyone can provide some initial, quick guidance, it would be appreciated.

I am about to place an order for some new computers with:
Intel: 3.2GHz/EM64T
Memory: 512MB/533MHz
Hard Drives: Raid1 [160GB-2 Drives]

and the other options we need for our offices.

1. How should I have the manufactuer format the RAID 1 Drives: FAT 32 or NTSF?

2. What are the Benefits of each type?

3. What are the Drawbacks for each type?

4. What limitations and/or considerations should be given for FAT 32 and NTSF with regard to Applications program, Firewalls, Virucide, etc.?

5. What limitations and/or considerations should be given for FAT 32 and NTSF with regard to systems maintenance tools [example: SystemWorks Pro, etc.]?

6. If I choose FAT32 what are the future implications?

7. If I choose NTSF what are the implications to existing and older programs I may still have to run?

8. How does this choice effect stand-alone, networked, peer-shared PCs?

Thank you,

Bob Davi

1. NTFS is more stable, and should require less maintenance. if it fails, it is more likely to be catastrophic, which isnt much of a concern if youll be running raid, as raid has the same issue. No computer running 98 or below will be able to read the drives, including networked.

2. FAT32 is easier to repair and do data recovery, but will require more frequent maintenance. all modern OS will read it, including dos.

no modern program, other than the OS, cares about the format.

My older OS was Windows 98 and I was perfectly fine with it. Even though it was supposedly a problem ridden OS for some people I had it tweaked and running bug free just like I wanted it. Well one of too things happened, either it crashed due to an Uninstaller program or because of ZoneAlarm. My friend who works in IT said he would never recommend an Uninstaller program, they have the potential of causing more problems by erasing needed files than they're worth. He gave me a CD so that I could reformat and get Windows 2K Pro installed on my computer. At first I was skeptical since I really had grown to like Windows 98. Well I went ahead with the new OS anyway. The IT person I work with said that NTFS was really the right way to go since NT is more stable. Based on Redwench's response and my advice form my IT buddies, I recommend you go with the NTFS
