Instant Message record on C drive?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Augustus

I am a small business owner and I had a temporary employee who was using either MSN Messenger or the Hotmail Instant messenger and I since had to fire this employee and I am very concerned she may have used the instant messenger to share confidential information about my office.

I know she has a hotmail account and know the email associated with it.

Do these specific instant messenging programs keep a folder or a text file on the local machine I can access to see what conversations she may have had?

Anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

some do, some dont. you would need the password to access them at any rate. and no, do not enter the account unless she gave you the password. you are opening yourself up to criminal charges and/or a lawsuit if you enter that account without her permission.

I believe MSN keeps a log in My Documents\My Recieved Files\[MSN Name]\ I believe it requires you to enter the user name. Your best bet though is to block access to those programs for employees, and to filter out web mail.
