Can one use a PC 3200 (DDR 400) in a MBD with 333 FSB that supports only PC 2700 (DDR 333)? Would it just run slower (at 333) or would it not work at all? Thanks.

it should work fine at 333, although its possible you will have problems. if you havent purchased it yet, make sure to get a highly compatable, good quality brand like kingston or corsair. give generics and bargain brands like pny a miss.

it would run slower at 333. its like underclocking your ram. and as redwench said, get a good brand.

oddly, older ram is more expensive because they dont make as much anymore. even though the VAST majority of faster (newer) ram is entirely backwards compatible with motherboards that use slower memory banks.
