I have an ongoing problem with my SBE Yahoo! SpeedStream 5100 (5 light) modem (1.5 - 3.0Mbps service) and Linksys Wireless Router (model WRT54GS). The only way I'm currently able to get my whole network online TEMPORARILY with all PCs connected (2 hard wired and 3 wireless), is if my router is setup using DHCP.
I've tried setting static addresses on all PCs, setting up my router with PPPoE... ALL suggestions I've been able to find on the internet, with NO luck whatsoever! After getting all systems up and running, it all goes down after just a couple or few hours requiring me to reset both the DSL modem and the Router again.
I've been working with PCs and networks for over 13 years and I can't get this service working so I can have all my PCs networked - This is incredibly frustrating!! I'd love to acquire a final solution to this problem and get my whole network stable for extended periods of time.

Have you tried using the pppoe setup built into the modem? I assume you are talking about the 5100B modem, since you say it has 5 lites. Then once you do that, you should be able to use the router as a DHCP router and have your devices connected.....just a thought, I'm no network wizard or anything, I just use SBC with a Linksys router.

You can also try power cycling your modem for about 30 second's to 1 minute

Did you ever look at the modem setup by going to (http://192.168.0.1)? You will need the modem access code that is on the bottom of it in order to look at advaced settings. I have the same modem but with a wireless wrt54g router. I looked at my settings in (Connection Configuration) I have the Protocol as (PPPoE) and my connection type as (Smart Keep Alive). You can also look at (PPP Location), have it set as (PPP is on the modem). You my also what to look at your router settings. When looking at my router settings, it is set as (Automatic Configuration-DHCP). My network has not gone down since setup. I am able to access files, folders, printers, drives, FTP and HTTP from outside my network via internat. Can you provide a little more info on network layout? Is it, Modem to Computer to Router then additional computers? Or, Modem to Router then additional computers?
