Cool Web Search removal

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

A few months back, my computer got a hijacker called "Cool Web Search". It's main symptom is it's continual redirecting of webpages to a page called "about:blank". It automatically changes my homepage to that. I've tried to remove it with numerous programs, some even designed specifically for removing it, but nothing has worked. Programs I've tried include Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, HijackThis, CWShredder, and PestPatrol. HijackThis is the most effective, though all the files regenerate themselves when my comp restarts. I've heard that it's able to remove it completely, but I don't know enough about the files it brings up to know what I can safely remove. If anyone knows, let me know and I'll post a log from it, and any other help would be greatly appreciated.

your restore is putting it back. cwshredder removes most variants quite well.

CWShredder removes "searchx" and occasionally restores some items, but relief is never permanent, and about:blank starts popping up again after the computer's been restarted.
