Okay I have my LAN set up on two computers and both of them with CS installed and up to date version. So I go to lan games on My Gateway P3 866mhz 128 RAM and create a game. My IBM P233mhz 32 RAM the sees the game and I join it. It goes to connecting to <server> X seconds left. It goes to 117 seconds then you see in the console Server #1 Build (some number) . Sometimes it goes to initializing and downloading and sometimes not. Either way it sits and the CPU makes lots of loading noises for a long time. THen it says cannot complete connection! This is bothersome. A 'lil' help plz!

Are your computers properly networked?

well considering I can share files, internet connections, and play other LAN games I would say YES!

You might try to get the 233 to load faster, it might be timing out. I used to have connection problems with CS when I still had 64MB on a PIII 550, some times the time it took the hard drive to crank would time out the server I was trying to connect to. For me, these type of problems were minimized when I upgraded to 128MB.
So, if you can add more RAM, I'd say try that, or edit the "config.cfg" or "autoexec.cfg" to lower the detail so there's less stuff for the PC to load.
Just an idea. Good luck.
BTW, the noise's your hearing, better not be your CPU. There most certanly your hard drive, besides fan's, the only part in a computer that can make audible noise are drives of various sorts, i.e., hard drive's, CD-ROM (RW) drives etc.

its just the old comp sux...so I couldn' t play even after I got the network working.

It is probably that the second comp can't handle CS. Because my friend set up a lan and everything is fine playing CS.
